COLOURS OTHER THAN RED TO WEAR AT CHRISTMAS
When you see someone in red, what do you think? I think of someone who is flirty, bold, sexy, and um Santa?
I’m not sure exactly when red became the “official” colour of Christmas, but the big jolly guy was definitely the trendsetter on this one. The “O.G.” if you want to call it. I think most of us immediately gravitate towards red items at Christmas, whether that be in our already existing wardrobe or when shopping for a new item to wear at the next holiday party. I am in no way against red, in fact it’s one of my favourite colours, but there are SO many other colours to show love for around Christmas time. All just as glamourous, flirty, sexy and bold as red. However, you won’t have to compete with the big guy on “who wore it best?”.
Cobalt Blue
When I see this gorgeous colour I immediately think an Ice Queen would wear it. I know Elsa likes her more pale blue, but how bad ass would she be in this colour? Maybe in Frozen 3 she’ll sport it. I find this colour to be so regal, and absolutely perfect for a formal holiday party you have to attend this season. Not to mention it looks stunning in velvet, basically Christmas’ staple fabric.
The best part about this colour, is it’s so striking and formal on it’s own, the rest of your outfit can be pretty fuss-less. You don’t need to go overboard with sparkly jewels to dress it up, and you can still incorporate red if you like with a beautiful red lip!
Black & White
I lumped these two together, because I can literally hear people screaming at me “those AREN’T colours, THEY ARE SHADES!” Calm down.
I get they aren’t necessarily colours, though depends who you ask, but they are EASY for the holidays. Holidays are stressful enough, forget adding on what to wear to your holiday party or Christmas dinner. Or am I the only one who starts planning my outfits come December 1st? We all have something, if not multiples of, black or white in our closet that we can dress up for the occasion. Black dress? Throw on some sparkly or patterned tights. Hate tights, grab some sparkly shoes! White blazer? Throw on a sequin fun tank underneath and added shimmering jewels to polish the outfit off.
I particularly love seeing a more off white version at Christmas, like cream, in a fuzzy off the shoulder sweater or sweater dress.
Green
I’m going to just say it like it is, this is the forgotten colour of Christmas. The ugly stepsister perhaps? Whatever it is, I don’t get why it’s so often pushed to the side when getting holiday ready. There are SO many beautiful versions of green out there these days to wear for Christmas. Not to mention a lot of plaid outfits come in green, hi plaid screams Christmas! What I love about choosing green to wear at Christmas is you can really jazz up the outfit with gold jewellery. I’m a sucker for gold accessories at Christmas, again it seems regal and I just find Christmas to be a regal or majestic time of year.
Burgundy
Ok, is this sort of cheating because it’s a shade or 3 from actually being red?
Burgundy is just such a rich warm colour, perfect for a cozy Christmas dinner in. It’s also another colour that looks amazing in velvet, so no fuss outfit for the more formal holiday dinners or party’s you have to attend. Now I know we all don’t have a lot of velvet in our closets, in fact I don’t think I have one velvet piece of clothing in mine, but like green this is another colour that pairs beautifully with bold gold jewels to add that extra sparkle for a more elegant look.
Burgundy must actually be the colour for royalty because I couldn’t believe how pricey the options of burgundy coloured clothing was compares to the other colours.
Fuchsia Pink
There was NO way I wasn’t including this on my list. Yeah, it’s an odd choice for Christmas BUT there is no denying this is the in colour this winter. Which I am absolutely loving because I’m a huge fan of bold bright colours in the winter! Bright colours just brighten up your drab winter days. There are SO many options in the stores right now for hot pink, sequin dresses, fuzzy cozy sweaters, shoes, dresses, cardigans. If you like to stand out at the party then this season’s trend is just for you! Don’t be afraid to be bold, whether that be on Christmas morning in your robe or at the holiday party!
