FAVOURITE "MOMENTS" OF 2021
If you’ve followed along on my Instagram this year you would have see me sharing a lot more celeb/pop culture news in my stories. That was something new for my account, but not for me. I’ve always been engrossed in celeb news. I’m dating myself here, but my best friend’s mum always bought those Star tabloid magazines and I think my love for the celebrity world came from her. She’d always hand me down the magazines when she was done with them to read. Over the years I wasn’t as engrossed, probably because so much of celebrity news these days is mostly about reality TV stars and I’ve never been a reality TV fan. Or it could be that with social media celebrity’s are more “accessible” in a way and you know what’s going on day to day with them. Anyways, I still lurked celebrity news and fashion and stayed in the “know” but for some reason never shared about anything on the blog or my Instagram until this year. Since it seemed to be pretty popular on my Instagram I thought I’d move it on over to the blog and I feel like there’s no better way to christen the blog then with a recap of my favourite celeb “moments” of 2021. I quote the word moments because some of these aren’t exactly a ONE moment scenario, but you get what I mean.
Kourtney Khardashian & Travis Barker
I don’t think anyone can truly explain the obsession with this couple but there’s no denying these two were the “it couple” of 2021. I know Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly tried, even Kourtney’s sister Kim with Pete Davidson, but there was no overshadowing Kourt and Travis. I think there’s quite a few factors that made their pairing so intriguing and something to fall in love with.
They were friends first and for quite a long time. There’s something so beautiful about a long standing friendship evolving into romantic love, it isn’t all about infatuation and more of evolving from friendship to partnership.
They are so damn different yet seem to be embracing those differences and even incorporating the other person’s style and interests into their own persona’s.
They both found love again much later in life and after some pretty tumultuous unhealthy relationships. Happily ever after isn’t how the fairytales portray it and I’d rather a “realistic” love story like this then the fairytale versions.
A positive representation of a blended family. Being a stepmom I love seeing positive representations of step kids embracing their stepparents. Their kids seem to really be embracing their future stepparent and get along with one another, even though Kourtney’s kids are younger than Travis’.
Lastly, I think this coupling came at the right damn time for the world. So much ugliness and negativity, these guys were the perfect distraction from it all. I think it’s safe to say their wedding will be one of my fave celeb moments of 2022, unless they’re planning an extended engagement then 2023 fave moment?
Britney’s Freedom
Another moment of much needed HAPPY positive news in a year filled with a lot of awfulness. I think we started 2021 finding out through that explosive documentary just how abusive the conservatorship on Britney Spears really was. Though I don’t think that was shocking to those fans who have been leading the “Free Britney” movement these past few years, but definitely shocking to me and any other bystander fan of Britt’s. To witness Britney, in real time through her social media posts, finally get her voice heard and gain actual control of her own life again made me emotional. I’ve had lengthy conversations with a friend about just how mentally strong Britney Spears truly is, and had to be, for all those years. The fact she endured such mental and emotional abuse without completely cracking tells me she’s not the mentally incapable person her father fed the courts. This isn’t a person who can’t live a healthy life outside of conservatorship, this was just someone who cracked from so much pressure and then was abused instead of being helped. I really hope she is now surrounded by people who truly care about her and love her, people that can help her in times of duress and ensure her mental and physical safety are always first.
Adele’s Return
God, did we need Adele right now and what a return it was! An entire 2 hour interview and concert TV special, like that dramatic black mermaid dress and those Saturn earrings may have made my entire year to be honest. Obviously we knew the album would be outstanding, but what I’m really loving about Adele’s return is that even though society is trying to make her some sort of role model for body positivity or the face of divorce and whatever other label they can put on her, she isn’t having any of it. She’s navigating her life for her and not to inspire the public. Is it great you feel inspired by her, sure, but I think the biggest message to get from this mature Adele is to inspire yourself. Stop looking to others, including celebs, influencers or in general the people around you, to inspire you. Live your life to fulfill your needs and aspirations, not other people’s.
Sexiest Man Alive Paul, fucking, Rudd
Ok, to be honest and I don’t know why but I kinda thought I was one of very few who had a legit crush on Paul Rudd. Clearly a stupid assumption. The man hasn’t aged since Clueless, actually to be honest he’s gotten possibly better looking? Beyond his agelessness and that genuine smile of his, he’s not your typical heartthrob like a George Clooney or Chris Evans, but there’s something so much more appealing in Rudd than the guys they pick mostly based on appearance. I don’t think I’ve ever heard anything negative of him in any press, he’s funny, he’s been married to the same non-celebrity woman for years, honestly a rarity in Hollywood. He’s like the millennial hunky version of Tom Hanks am I right?
Jonah Hill
Jonah Hill. That’s it, just him being him. His bold fashion choices, the bleached hair, the beard, his engagement, him politely asking the public to not comment on his physical appearance and then openly discussing his physical insecurities and acceptance of his body. The man seems genuinely happy as fuck and who doesn’t love seeing people happy.
Bennifer 2.0
I saved the best for last and am still confused why people hated on them so much back in the day. I have always been a JLo fan, him not so much, but you could tell they were in love and that the pressure and toxicity of the press and public is ultimately why that relationship ended. It’s crazy and beautiful to see after all this time, and marriages and kids in-between, they’ve found their way back to one another.
Those are just 6 of SO many great celeb moments in 2021, I honestly wouldn’t have had the time or energy to write out all my favourite moments. There was the explosive Harry and Meghan interview which actually made me like her way more than I had before that interview. Tom Holland and Zendaya confirming their relationship to the world, ASAP Rocky wearing a legit quilt made by someone’s grandmother to the Met Gala, Britney getting engaged, the Friends reunion special, Sarah Jessica Parker slamming the stereotype of men getting older vs. women. See, it kind of doesn’t end and I can’t believe so much happened in one year!
Do you think I missed any moments of 2021? Do we share any of the same celebrity moments?
